food, anyone? anyone? anyone there?

My intended works 14+ hours a day here in Los Angeles. He's helping to put up a Broadway-bound musical. The crew gets an hour for lunch, an hour for dinner. Great and easy if you live in New York City, where you can usually walk out the door and take your pick of restaurants.

By rush hour, downtown LA begins to look like a ghost town. As an intrepid explorer of the city I find this most fascinating, but for our hungry crew of theater-makers it's a different story. Looking for dinner in this area with only an hour to eat is NOT fun. And I joined in on that "not fun" tonight. Too bad it wasn't chow fun.

Recommendation led us to a trial run of Redwood Bar and Grill which immediately ended in failure as there was no reservation and not a seat available, except at the bar. The pirate theme might have scared a few of us as well. The rumor about a good burger coming out of there would need to wait until another day. As we walked in a big circle, P. called it quits, as we were turning into what looked like a wandering cluster**ck (I have to include that expletive albeit self-censored phrase here in the blog, because I love it so). The majority of us ended up at Patinette Cafe at MoCA where we were satiated, until H. found a moth in her salad.

Mmmmm.

I lost my will to eat as H. had already done, though she sipped her cappuccino and seemed to get over it. The staff felt terrible and brought out some adorable little desserts as an apology and we cautiously but happily shared.

Tonight's debacle inspires a continued research of restaurant options in the area and I look forward to checking out Grand Central Market, Chinatown, Little Tokyo, and some of the farmers markets that dot downtown Wednesdays through Fridays. But, see, I've got way more free time. If you're on a tight schedule like the one I love and his compadres, we've proof that it can be a crappy endeavor. I'll most likely make a homemade meal for them soon. My pesto will be on the menu, as soon as we receive our 50lb box I sent from NYC with the blender in it (what can I say? I'm a girl who can't live without her blender).

I walked A. back to the theater. Regardless of the "not so fun" search for a decent quick dinner, I was still happy to have an hour with my hardworking love.
